Schools-St.James Junior School
Back To Home Page
The original junior school was built as a 2 form entry school in 1959. It consists of 8 classes with the additional facilities of a school administrative block and a multi-purpose hall, set in its own playing fields
As a result of the North Warwickshire primary school re-organisation plan introduced in 1973, this school became a 3 form entry Middle school catering for children from 8-12 years of age. At the same time the school was re-named Bulkington St.James CE Middle school, thus still retaining its close association with the local church which has existed since before 1862
In order to be able to cope with the increased number of children resulting from re-organisation, an extensive new building programme was carried out at school and by 1973 a new purpose built open plan unit was completed. The playground was extended and additional playing fields were acquired.
In September 1996 the school became a junior school thus returning to its original status, although of course in the extended building which has always yielded considerable benefits for the children.
In the late 1960's a fire gutted the middle two classrooms on the top floor,it happened on a sunny day and during school time. All the pupils were evacuated safely
many were frightened and in tears.Fire engines were called from Bedworth to put out the fire and the classrooms were out of bounds for several months until they had been completely refurnished.I witness the fire at first hand as I was doing an experiment in the playground on wind direction only to see flames coming from a class stockroom on the top floor. The alarm was set off and my classroom was directly below the stockroom, the water to put out the fire had worked it's way down the walls of our classroom on the ground floor and took with it our paintings we had done earlier that day.The teacher told us it was that bad that the paintings were floating in the dirty water on the floor.I can remember a boy in my class called Wayne Summers crying because his painting had been ruined. We all sat on the playing field watching the school burn.
Weeks after the fire we had to share classrooms with other classes making larger classes to teach.
Here is a list of the teachers during my time at the school 1966-1970
